During this decade Arthur C. Clarke, author of 2001 A Space Odyssey, predicted that there would be a computer, by 2001, in every home. During this decade the Internet, originally called ARPAnet, was created by the US Defence Department and so was email, by Raymond Tomlinson,  as an application for ARPAnet. At the same time the first commercial phone was developed by Dr. Martin Cooper and his team at Motorola.
